ONLY the vice mayoralty post is hotly contested in Kapalong, Davao del Norte in the May 13, 2013 mid-term elections.
Mayor Edgardo Timbol, who faced a token candidate in the 2010 elections, is running unopposed while there are only eight candidates for councilor – all sure winners.
Timbol fielded his wife, Maria Theresa Timbol, barangay captain of Maniki (Poblacion) and the ABC president, against two-termer Vice Mayor Romy Estrada, who was the mayor’s running mate in the 2007 and 2010 polls.
Estrada is running as an independent after being junked by Timbol’s group of President Aquino’s Liberal Party (LP).
He was a member of the municipal council for three terms and easily won against two vice mayoral rivals while he was still Timbo’s ally.
Timbol’s wife, who is vice president of the Federation of ABC in Davao del Norte, was recently appointed to replace Vincent Floirendo, who resigned two weeks ago as barangay captain of Adecor, Island Garden City of Samal and concurrentlty FABC president which qualified him as member of the provincial board.
The incumbent municipal councilors of Kapalong are Rowell Selim, Alan Quezon, Helario Caminero, Dominador Cruda III, Rebecca Balinggao, Freddie Pentacase Sr., Chichina Faye Lim, and Porferio Tuna. [ASA]
