Tagum, Mati, Padada and Digos slaughterhouses will receive financial assistance coming from the national government which will be implemented in 2013 as a part of the new program of the National Meat Inspection Service Region 11 to improve slaughter facilities.
The Tagum and Mati slaughter houses will be receiving financial assistance of 10 million pesos while the Padada slaughterhouse will receive 5 million pesos this year as a part of the national livestock program of NMIS Region 11, according to Dr. Myrna Habacon, NMIS head in an interview she granted Edge.
The Digos slaughterhouse will receive P5 million as part of the national meat improvement program with the LGU as their counterpart.
According to Dr. Habacon, “this new program will help LGU slaughterhouses meet the national standards.”
To avail of this financial assistance, the slaughterhouse must first get a Double A Certificate of Accreditation from the NMIS.
The Double A accreditation certifies that the facilities, equipment and operational procedures done in the slaughterhouse are capable of slaughtering livestock intended for domestic market whose movement is all throughout the Philippines. Which means, they are compliant with good manufacturing processes sanitation standard operating procedures
Dr. Habacon said, “this means, we can be sure that the meat that will come out of that facility is clean because we will audit the safety of their water, their pest control program, process control, and make sure there are no cross contamination.”
