DCWD warns public of water shortage

Davao City Water District acting general manager Edwin V. Regalado advises DCWD customers especially those residing in elevated and farther areas to store water in clean containers during the whole duration of the summer season for them to have standby water supply in case water supply becomes intermittent.
“Water demand always increases every during summer season, a trend that we have observed for a long time now,” Regalado said. “Because of the increased demand, we experience shortage of water supply. Thus, there are some areas that experience low water pressure to no water during peak hours of water usage which is usually in the morning,” he added.
Aside from the increased demand, Regalado also mentioned that two production wells of DCWD’s largest water system, the Dumoy Water Supply System (WSS), have bogged down and need to be shut off.Last April 2, DCWD had to temporarily shut off Production Well No. 23 as it is already due for re-drilling. Although the project has already been awarded to a contractor, the whole re-drilling project would still take around one year to complete. PW No. 30 also needed to be shut off for preventive maintenance purposes.
“As much as we want to have all of our production wells operating during these times when water demand is very high, we could not risk further damaging our facilities,” Regalado said. According to him the non-operation of these production wells further aggravate the problem in water supply.
He also mentioned that customers whose connections are beings supplied by DCWD’s reservoir in GSIS Matina are also experiencing problems in water supply. DCWD’s Engineering and Construction and Operation and Maintenance departments have already assessed the situation in order to come up with measures to solve this problem.
In behalf of DCWD, Regalado appeals for the understanding and cooperation of the affected customers. Further, he encourages them to call the DCWD trunk line at 221-9400 and press “1” on their phone dial to listen to the latest daily water updates, or contact its call center through the 24-hour hotlines 221-9412, 0927-798-8966, 0908-441-0653 or 0925-511-3293 for updates, complaints, queries and other matters pertaining to DCWD services.
