Recording studios make big bucks from election

When it comes to election time, recording studios are a hit.
Recording studios in the city, and not many of them are in this industry, are made ‘nouveau riche’ when election comes due to the high demand for campaign jingles.
Ryan Cris Rellon, owner of Soundtrack Recording Studio located in Rizal Street, Davao City, told Edge Davao yesterday that it is only during election time their revenues go up by three-folds.
“Politicians don’t mind the cost of the song, what matters to them is to get famous and remembered during election,” Rellon said.
He added that the rate for an ‘all-in’ (meaning they will arrange the music, compose and provide the singer) package amounts to P40-P70, 000 per jingle which is produced in three to five days.
“If they already have the music and all we have to do is compose and provide the singer, we will charge them P10-P15, 000 per jingle,” he said. The production of this type is completed in three days.
Rellon added that since October last year they already started recording campaign jingles for local politicians from Davao City and other provinces.
“Actually our clients come from different parts of the provinces, we have Surigao, Bukidnon, Cotabato, and Davao Oriental and right now we are recording Governor Arturo Uy’s campaign jingle,” he explained.
He added that the impact of campaign jingles is more effective than seeing tarpaulins and leaflets of a certain candidate, since Commission on Elections (Comelec) didn’t impose laws in limiting as to how many minutes a jingle would take.
“By this, a politician will always be remembered by the voters because campaign jingles repeatedly mentioned their name all throughout the song,” Rellon added.
Pastor Eufronio Manguiob, a political candidate of Baganga, Davao Oriental and a client of Rellon, said that election campaign jingle gives candidates that needed name recall value.
“Campaign jingles are very effective I guess, this will serve as a tool for our names to be remembered,” Manguiob added.
