Tagum Coop heads towards Golden Year

Started as small church-based organization, Tagum Cooperative is heading towards its Golden Year on October 13, 2017.
With flashes of lights, variety of hues and with artistic dance presentation, Tagum Cooperative launched its 50th Anniversary during the 49th Annual General Assembly held at Pedro B. San Jose Gym, University of Mindanao, Tagum City on March 13.
In leading the launching ceremony, Tagum Cooperative Chairperson of the Board of Directors (BOD), Norma R. Pereyras recalled that the Cooperative started with “a simple dream and a thoughtful goal to help the people of (the) once small town of Magugpo in their financial needs”.
She revealed that Tagum Cooperative was once just a small church-based organization known as “Holy Name Society of Tagum Parish” with 38 founding members pooling P80.00 share capital.
“Tagum Coop has now grown into over P3 billion in assets with more than 120,000 members and users spread across Davao Region and Agusan del Sur,” she said.
She also recalled the rough journey of the Cooperative but with hard-work and dedication of the co-operators, Tagum Cooperative now becomes “one of the most promising, multi-awarded and multi-billionaire cooperatives in the country and in the world”.
After the video presentation about the 50-year journey of Tagum Cooperative, the 50th Anniversary logo was unveiled, slowly coming down from its hoisted and covered position in-front of the stage of the UM Tagum gym.
Pereyras explained that the Circle around the 50 years of the logo, shows infinite/unending service to the members; the wreath of Oak Leaves symbolizes strength, stability and nobility of Tagum Cooperative for the last 50 years; the Camelia Japonica flower (in between 1967 and 2017) signifies Tagum Cooperative’s “Excellence”; and the Gold color chosen for the 50th Anniversary celebration symbolizes courage, passion and wisdom of the leaders serving Tagum Coop.
She also revealed that a series of activities will unfold in 50 weeks to count down the days towards the 50th year of Tagum Cooperative on October 13, 2017.
The launching of the 50th Anniversary, that will have a repeat during the Annual General Assembly in Davao City on March 20, marked the start of the 50-week countdown activities towards the 50th year of the Cooperative, bannering the theme, “Tagum Cooperative: Golden Era of Success and Excellence”.
The Golden Anniversary celebration will feature the Grand Raffle Draw which will put at stake grand prizes for winners to take home a brand new Mitsubishi Strada or a Mirage plus other prizes to include motorcycles, laptops, LED television sets, washing machine, microwave oven, cash prizes among others.
During the launching, the first ever original Tagum Cooperative theme song entitled, “Side by Side, Hand in Hand,” was officially played, after which, Tagum Coop officers and guests, along with the members tossed wine to mark the significance of the event. (Tagum Cooperative)
