Davao City Police Office (DCPO) investigators are looking into personal motive as possible angle in the murder of a police officer last Sunday morning.
DCPO spokesperson Chief Insp. Milgrace C. Driz identified the slain cop as Senior Police Officer (SPO) 1 Librado Nalzaro.
Driz said a police report stated Nalzaro was shot by unidentified men riding in tandem at corner C.M. Recto Avenue and Palma Gil Street at around 7a.m. of April 18.
She said Nalzaro was reportedly harassing his neighbors in Barangay 76-A a few days before he was killed.
Driz said there are also reports that the victim was allegedly into illegal drugs activity in his area.
According to witnesses, she said the victim was riding his motorcycle traversing Palma Gil Street but when Nalzaro reached C.M. Recto area, the suspects who were following shot him from behind causing his instantaneous death.
Driz said Nalzaro, a former member of city Mobile Patrol Group (MPG), tested positive of illegal drugs during a surprise drug test by the DCPO last year.
He was assigned at Police Regional Office – Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (PRO-RPHAU) 11 while his case was pending with PNP Regional Internal Affairs Section.
Driz said after six months of trial, the PRO-11 decided to place him on forced retirement because under a National Police Commission memorandum circular, any police officer who committed offense or misdemeanor who has reached 50 years shall be advised to retire.
Nalzaro was appointed as a police officer in 1986 under the Police Constabulary-Integrated of National Police (PC-INP) setup. He was removed from the service in 2000 because of alleged involvement in illegal drugs but was reinstated in 2010 after he appealed his case.
