ASEAN scout leaders okay Tagum as jamboree venue

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, BRUNEI DARUSSALAM—Scout leaders across the ASEAN Region expressed confidence that Tagum City will able to pull off a grand staging of the 6th edition of the ASEAN Scout Jamboree that will be hosted by the City of Tagum come November 27-December 2 this year.

In the 6th meeting of the ASEAN Scout Association for Regional Cooperation (ASARC) held at Brunei Darussalam last August 27, Mayor Allan L. Rellon presented before scout leaders from the member countries of ASARC the developments in the preparation of the city in hosting the said international event.

Expected to gather 30,000 Scouts, the week-long event will be the biggest event to be hosted by the city that is positioning to project itself as a rising MICE (meetings, investments, conventions and events) destination.

Mayor Rellon stressed that preparations are on full-swing “to ensure that we give the best ASEAN Scout Jamboree ever.”
The local chief executive, who will be serving as the Camp Chief during the 6th ASEAN Scout Jamboree, also allayed the fear of the international delegation because of the declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao.

“Rest assured that we have been working very closely with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police, along with our civilian auxiliary units, to maintain peace and order during the conduct of this week-long event. With or without martial law, you can be ensured of a safe stay in our city,” he said.

Participating countries to this edition of the ASEAN Scout Jamboree include Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines.

Mayor Rellon also mentioned that the Scout Association of Georgia have also committed their country’s participation in the jamboree during his visit along with the Philippine delegation to Georgia shortly after attending the World Scout Conference in Azerbaijan.
International contingent heads will be conducting a site inspection in Tagum’s Energy Park—the main venue of the jamboree—on the third week of October to see for themselves the development in the preparation of the Jamboree.

The 7th ASARC meeting will also be hosted by Tagum on November 26 this year, the day before the formal opening of the ASEAN Scout Jamboree which will be highlighted by the official declaration of the accreditation of ASARC as a recognized entity of the ASEAN. Louie Lapat/CIO Tagum
