Law agencies to hold awareness campaign

Law enforcement agencies are bringing their awareness campaign to campuses and communities around Davao City.

The reaching out activities are part of the celebration of the “23rd Crime Prevention Week” which will be observed on September 1-7.

National Police Commission(NAPOLCOM), Officer-in-Charge of the Board Atty. Randy Babao said in Monday’s Kapehan sa Davao in SM Ecoland that the agency will be holding several activitires like symposiums, inter-school basketball tournaments, barangay and city jail visitations, distribution of whistles for the general public and radio guestings. All these are aimed at strengthening the dissemination of information on crime prevention.

Also part of the highlight of the week-long celebration is the creation of the Regionwide Student Crime Prevention Committees (SCPCs), which are designed to encourage students to be “the eyes and ears” of the police patrols against all forms of criminality that could possibly occur inside campuses.

Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum, Davao City Police District Director, said that the Philippine National Police (PNP) will be implementing an integrated and rejuvenated operation on neighborhood watch, in line with the crime prevention week celebration.

“The intensified integrated patrol system, backed up with support of our 900 volunteers and auxiliary policemen, working alongside with our police patrols who are manning the security of our streets, is a very strong counter measure against any form of criminality or terrorism attempts to enter Davao City.” Tagum said.

Tagum likewise baed that the crime trend in Davao city is going down. “Basically the picture can be compared to a slope of a hill, pababa po tayo.” He added.

With regards to the participation of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Deputy Regional Director Joel Plaza said, that the agency will also take part in conducting lectures, however, they will be focusing more in crime prevention and anti-illegal drugs operations in the barangay level.
