The Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) has lauded the holding of this year’s Davao Agri Trade Expo (DATE) because it focuses on livestock, hogs, poultry, gamefowl, and aquaculture sectors which have all been affected by climate change.
“The Expo made available to visitors many technologies including biogas and fly control, building and ventilation which is very timely for climate change since they keep temperatures in farms consistent,” said Engr. Wilfred Teves, chair of DATE 2017 and Vice President for Industry of the DCCCII.
Teves said these technologies are already being used by the poultry industry and other industries.
However, other players in the concerned industries should start to consider these innovations if they want to continue doing good business despite environmental changes.
He said this year’s expo aims to help the chamber in its campaign to make food available, affordable and accessible for all. “Manila sources most of its food from the provinces which means the carbon footprint is higher because of the highest cost of fuel and delivery fees,” he said.
Teves said the Chamber aims to come up with a responsible agribusiness sector where livestock, poultry, and aquaculture are in support of producing food that is cheap.
Teves said last year’s DATE was most successful in terms of people going to the event as it reached 8,000. The exhibitors were also able to close sales of up to PHP347 million. However, they remain hopeful that they have reached more people this year. (Lovely Carillo/PNA)
