The newly-installed commanding general of the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) will continue to push for an information and advocacy campaign about martial law.
During an interview with members of the media after the change of command at Camp Panacan on Tuesday Lt. General Benjamin Madrigal said the information and advocacy drive will continue.
“In connection with Marawi crisis this is to inform the community about the dangers of violent extremism. “ the Eastmincom chief said.
His Eastmincom predecessor current Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff General Rey Leonardo Guerrero intensified information and advocacy efforts at the height of martial law which involved different sectors under his area of responsibility.
Among these included engagements with media thru press conferences, the conduct of multi-sectoral fora and production of IEC materials explaining martial law and violent extremism.
Lt. General Benjamin Madrigal took over the post from Brig. General Perfecto Rimando Jr. who held the Eastmincom position temporarily after Gen. Guerrero was appointed chief-of-staff in October 26.
President Duterte has ruled out the lifting of martial law “until the last terrorist has been taken out.” The declaration was issued in May 23.
The Congress has extended the declaration of martial law up until December 31, 2017. (PIA/RG Alama)
