The office of the city tourism is expecting a steady influx of tourists and foreign visitors this year’s Araw ng Dabaw together with the holding of international events in the city.

City Tourism Operations Office head Generose Tecson said on Wednesday that they were targeting at least 2.2 million tourist arrivals for 2018 and at least seven percent increase this year.

“2.2 million Tourist arrivals for 2018 are enough to sustain the two million mark. We’re hoping and doing the best for this year,” she said.

Tecson said that Davao, being a gateway to other exciting places in the region can also help promote the tourist destinations of other cities and municipalities in Davao Region.

“In order to reach the target of tourist arrivals, we will launch promotional activities and roadshow to be conducted in some areas in the country to help sustain the existing direct flights to and from Davao City,” Tecson said

Tecson said that the packages that will be brought to Luzon and Visayas will promote the beaches and the 11 tribes of Davao.

“They will see the difference that Davao City has with their place. When we go to places like Boracay and Cebu areas, we can promote our islands-to-highlands destinations from the mountains to the sea activities plus the 11 tribes. That’s the marketing that we will be doing,” she said.

Tecson added that the preparations for the city’s foundation anniversary and is underway and that the city needs more facilities, branded hotels and tour guides to be the gateway of the region.
