To the dismay of her supporters, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio did not give in to thecall for her to run for president.
The anticipation for the withdrawal of Mayor Sara’s certificate of candidacy (COC) as mayor of Davao City and her filing to run for president in the 2022 national and local elections during the last day of filing yesterday did not happen.
Pictures of Mayor Sara we’re circulating online while meeting her supporters in Manila. The pictures, however, were verified by Davao City Information Officer Jefry Tupas through his Facebook account that the photos circulating were not of Mayor Sara’s.
This was affirmed by Mayor Sara’s political spokesperson Liloan Mayor Christine Garcia-Frasco, who affirmed to Edge Davao that the mayor was in Davao City yesterday.
“As I am aware, Mayor Sara is in Davao,” Frasco said in a text message.
Meanwhile, various organizations calling for Mayor Sara to run for president were converging at the Sofitel waiting for the mayor to file her COC as president.
In Davao City various organizations mounted a motorcade urging the mayor to run.
Mayor Sara’s supporters suddenly felt sad when the mayor issued a statement through her Facebook Page around noon yesterday stating that she will not run for president in the 2022 national and local elections.
“I have been honored with the gift of trust and respect of many of our fellow Filipinos. A gift that is one in a million. Thank you to everyone who have expressed their support. Many of you do not know me and yet you carry me over your shoulders. Like the other millions of Filipinos, I share with you the same goal of living a peaceful and prosperous life in our country, today and in the many years to come. I am presenting myself to the Dabawenyos as Mayor for the third and last time in my life as a politician. I call on everyone to work together for an honest, orderly, and credible elections in May 2022,” the mayor posted.
The waiting lasted until 5pm but Mayor Sara was no-show.
