Davao City is now open for tourists and visitors.
The re-opening was based on the number of people who went out during the long weekend after some restrictions were relaxed by the city government of Davao.
City Tourism Operations Officer Generose Tecson affirmed that Davao City is now open to tourists and visitors, however, urged them to book only to the establishments accredited by the Department of Tourism (DOT).
“Yes, we will allow already because intrazonal naman ang Davao but we are asking them na to book in DOT accredited na mga establishments para matulungan natin ang mga legal na mga establishments,” Tecson said.
She also said that flights coming from Dubai also arrived at Davao International Airport (DIA) last weekend.
“Noong weekend marami din po tayong flights na dumating from Dubai and isa na yun na ginawa natin to spur or magkaroon ng business ang ating accommodation sector,” she added.
Tecson also said that the CTOO Facebook Page received a lot of queries if the city is already accepting tourists.
“I am very sure na marami ang papasok because yun po ang mga matagal na nilang gusto na -visit here ang kanilang mga relatives. Yun ang mga tanong sa amin (FB page),” she said.
Tecson said that opening the city for tourists will help the city government regain from the losses due to the impact of the pandemic.
“We have to make bawi ang we feel the best way is through tourism,” she said.
Tecson said even before lifting some restrictions, CTOO already prepared guidelines together with the private sector including hotel accommodations and tour operators for MICE (meetings incentives conference exhibitions) and social events.
“We gave it to them kung ano ang dapat sundin na protocols and then kami na ang nag-a-align sa lahat para makabawi tayo and through MICE. We are happy to note that based on the Special Mayor’s Permit, marami-rami na rin ang bumabalik ang kanilang kumpyansa sa Davao City and they really want to hold their conventions in Davao City,” she said.
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has signed Executive Order (EO) No. 59, otherwise known as “An Order Providing for the Modified Guidelines on Liquor Ban and the Lifting of Curfew Within the City,” on Monday, October 25, 2021.
On November 2, 2021, the city government of Davao announced that it will no longer require the mandatory use of motorcycle barriers and installation of plastic barriers on the jeepneys and other public utility vehicles to separate passengers effective immediately.
Under the Executive Order No. 63 Series of 2021, an order providing for the lifting of the use of motorcycle barriers, jeepney, and other public utility vehicle barriers, these barriers will no longer be required, however, the use of these safety measures are still encouraged.
