Vice Presidential candidate Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is honored to accept the chairmanship of Lakas- Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) and thanked the party for its confidence and trust in her.

“Isa pong karangalan para sa akin ang makasama ang mga masisipag at magagaling na mga opisyal at kasapi ng Lakas-CMD Party sa National Council Meeting ngayon araw. Kasabay po ng ating pagtanggap sa posisyon bilang chairperson ng partido, taus-puso akong nagpapasalamat sa inyong kompyansa at tiwala sa akin,” the mayor said in her message during her installation at the party’s virtual National Council Meeting held on Thursday.

In her message shared by Mayor Sara’s political spokesperson Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco to Edge Davao, the mayor said accepting the post means she can no longer say no to the Filipinos who are urging her to run in the national elections.

The mayor also said she accepted the challenge with the thoughts of Filipinos facing extraordinary challenges in the times of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Covid-19 did not only bring deaths, anxiety, and uncertainty to us. It also proved to be an enormous burden to our economy, education, health, and other sectors and institutions. Maybe the road to recovery will be a long highway. And maybe it will be harder than it seems,” she said.

Mayor Sara is optimistic that Lakas-CMD and its party members across the country will never abandon their commitment to the people.

“I am confident that we will continue to be guided by the principles that the party has been built on — good governance, economic development, people empowerment, sustainable development, and social justice,” she said.

The mayor said it is their mission not only to win the campaign but to win the aspirations of the Filipinos especially the needy, unemployed, farmers, youth, senior citizens, LGBTQs, workers, women, and other sectors that need their help as government officials.

Meanwhile, Lakas-CMD is also reportedly eyeing President Rodrigo Duterte, who is running for Senator under Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS), in the party’s senatorial slate in the 2022 national elections.

President Duterte is supporting Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go’s presidential bid under PDDS.
