The camp of presumptive Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio slammed ACT Teachers Partylist Representative France Castro after she called for the inclusion of Philippine history in the high school curriculum.

Liloan Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco, spokesperson of Duterte-Carpio, said in a statement that the challenge issued by Castro is premature and misleading pending the presentation of the education agenda by the incoming administration.

Castro was also reported challenging Duterte-Carpio, as the next Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary, not to use the educational system as a tool for further revision of the Philippine history this after Duterte-Carpio was reported saying she would change the martial law historical record once seated as Education Secretary last week. Duterte-Carpio also said that it would be difficult and it was not a priority.

“In any event, the current leadership of the Department of Education has clarified time and again that contrary to reckless and misleading claims, Philippine History is in fact being taught in the K to 12 curriculum. It is Rep. Castro who sows misinformation by making false claims on historical revisionism,” Frasco said.

Frasco also urged Castro not to give in to her personal and political agenda and to focus on upholding the welfare of thousands of teachers by legislation which is her duty and mandate.

“Taking a belligerent and combative stance in the molding of our youth serves no one except perhaps those whose intention it is to foment discord and disunity in our country,” she said.

Duterte-Carpio was also reported asking the public to wait for her proclamation before she addressed concerns on the K-12 program as well as increasing the salary of teachers.
