City tax collection reaches 77 percent of 2022 target

The City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) reported that the city’s tax collection has reached 77 percent of this year’s target and has surpassed last year’s figures as of August this year.

Lawyer Lawrence Bantiding, head of CTO, told media during I-Speak media forum on Thursday that CTO has collected P9,769, 949, 458.17 as of August 2022, which is 77.67 percent of the P12,576,116,634 target for 2022. This amount is also 26.75 percent higher compared to the collection in 2021 for the same period.

“If we have to compare it to the collection of the same period of last year naa ta’y increase and our accomplishment rate this year is 77.69 percent. As of this August pa ni ug wala pa nahuman ang atoang third quarter kani na report,” he said.

Bantiding said the bulk of the collection comes from the business taxes with a total of P113,586,446.94.

“Ang target for this year for business taxes is P1.6 billion. Right now, ang accomplishment rate nato based on that target is 119.36 percent. Na surpass na nato katong gi set na target for this year,” he said.

Bantiding is optimistic that the city will hit the 2022 tax collection target.

“Naa nalang ta’y 23 percent nga bunuon, in the remaining four months of this year, and we are confident that we will reach 100 percent. Last year we have a surplus in our collection,” he said.

He also reminded taxpayers to pay on time to avoid penalties.

Meanwhile, Bantiding also reported that the CTO has strengthened its online payment platform so that taxpayers need not go to its offices anymore.

The platform was launched in 2020 for the convenience of taxpayers. The online payments can be done through the Land Bank of the Philippines Link.Biz Portal and Development Bank of the Philippines and its affiliates, and also e-wallet payments such as Paymaya and Gcash.

He also announced that the online payment system had been expanded to include miscellaneous fees, aside from business tax. Among the miscellaneous fees are payments for transfer tax, fees on weight and measure, Special Mayor’s Permit, Professional Tax Receipt (PTR), Slaughterhouse Fees, and regulatory fees for different city offices.

Bantiding encouraged taxpayers to use the online platform. particularly those who are due for the 4th quarter business tax payments.
