The 21st City Council of Davao has approved on third and final reading on Tuesday an ordinance adopting the Local Shelter Plan (LSP) for 2022–2031.
The measure, proposed by Councilor Diosdado Mahipus Jr., chair of the Committee on Housing, Rural and Urban Development, aims to guide the city in building and improving housing projects in the next 10 years.
Mahipus added that the measure also aims to address long-standing problems in socialized housing and help more Dabawenyos access affordable homes.
Mahipus said the plan includes different housing options such as public rentals, rent-to-own units, lease arrangements, and the use of usufruct. It also covers various types of housing, including single-attached, single-detached, and mid-rise buildings.
“Nakita nato nga naa ta’y public rentals nga gi-propose, naa tay rent-to-own nga gi-propose, naa na’y lease, naa na’y use of usufruct… lain-lain pud ang klase nga patukuron—naay single attach, single detach, mid-rise, ug uban pang schemes. Atong gipaningkamutan nga ma-approve kay mao ni among tan-aw makatabang aron sayon ang pag-angkon sa pabalay dinhi sa syudad sa Davao,” Mahipus told the media.
He said the LSP is designed to make it easier for residents to secure a decent home in the city.
According to Mahipus, around 15,000 Dabawenyos who do not have their own houses particularly informal settler families and low-income earners are expected to benefit from the projects under the plan.
