Davao Light cuts residential power rates in December, assures adequate supply

Davao Light and Power Company (Davao Light) announced a reduction in residential electricity rates for December, while assuring the public that it has sufficient power supply to meet current demand, with access to additional sources if needed.

In a statement, Davao Light said residential electricity rates went down by P0.3477 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), bringing the new rate to P9.7135 per kWh from last month’s P10.0612 per kWh. The lower rate applies to electricity bills issued from December 11, 2025, to January 10, 2026.

The company said the rate adjustment was mainly driven by lower power prices at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), one of Davao Light’s power supply sources.

Davao Light reminded consumers that electricity rates are subject to monthly adjustments due to market price volatility and encouraged the public to manage electricity consumption efficiently.

Meanwhile, the power utility assured customers that it has enough supply to meet current electricity requirements.

Fermin Edillon, reputation enhancement manager of Davao Light, said the company has sufficient contracted power and can tap WESM to secure additional supply when necessary.

“For Davao Light, we have enough supply. We have WESM where we can source additional supply if needed,” Edillon said during the year-end media briefing and fellowship of the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps media forum held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday.

Edillon added that based on reports from the Department of Energy, additional power generation capacities are expected to come online, with more power plants set to invest in the region.

He also said Davao Light is prepared on the distribution side, noting that the company continues to invest in upgrading its facilities to ensure the efficiency and reliability of its power lines. By Maya M. Padillo
