Davao City records zero injuries during New Year celebrations

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reported zero injuries in Davao City during the New Year 2026 celebrations, with no firecracker-related injuries or stray bullet incidents recorded following close monitoring and coordination with hospitals across the city.

DCPO acting director Col. Mannan Muarip attributed the injury-free celebration to the strict implementation of City Ordinance No. 060-02, or the Firecracker Ban, which aims to protect residents from preventable harm during holiday festivities.

He added that enhanced security measures and sustained enforcement efforts helped ensure a safe and orderly transition into the new year.

“The absence of firecracker-related injuries and stray bullet incidents serves as a clear indicator of the effectiveness of proactive policing, intensified police visibility, and sustained information and awareness campaigns conducted before and during the New Year celebration,” Muarip said in a statement.

Muarip noted that although the celebrations were largely peaceful, several individuals were apprehended for violating the firecracker ban.

Based on DCPO monitoring, a total of 16 police operations were conducted targeting the illegal possession, manufacture, use, and sale of firecrackers and improvised devices, resulting in the arrest of five individuals.

The DCPO also reported the confiscation of 6,114 firecrackers and improvised devices during the operations, with an estimated value of P23,620.

Muarip said appropriate charges will be filed before the Office of the Prosecutor, reaffirming the city government’s commitment to enforcing laws designed to safeguard public welfare.

He emphasized that the absence of injuries underscored the effectiveness of proactive policing, increased police presence, and continuous information and awareness campaigns conducted before and throughout the New Year festivities.

Muarip also highlighted the vital role of community cooperation, citing the discipline of residents, the support of barangay officials, and the strong backing of the Davao City Government as key contributors to the safe celebration.

“This outcome reaffirms that peace and order are best achieved when law enforcement, the local government, and the community work as one. The Davao City Police Office remains steadfast in sustaining this partnership and in continuously enforcing laws and ordinances that safeguard lives and uphold public safety,” he said.
