The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has intensified its campaign against the illegal cigarette trade, seizing more than P300,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes during a series of coordinated operations conducted across Davao City.
According to DCPO, from January 15 to 16, 2026, it carried out nine anti-smuggling operations in various police station areas that resulted in the confiscation of assorted illicit cigarettes and other smuggled goods valued at P305,059.
DCPO said the operations focused on vendors engaged in the resale of smuggled cigarettes in public markets, commercial centers, and other high-foot-traffic areas, disrupting the distribution and retail flow of untaxed tobacco products.
DCPO acting City Director Col. Mannan Muarip said the crackdown forms part of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP’s) intensified campaign against illegal trade and is anchored on DCPO’s D.A.V.A.O. Framework (Discipline, Action, Virtue, Accountability, and Order).
Muarip said police personnel strictly enforced laws governing the sale and distribution of tobacco products, ensuring that all seizures were conducted lawfully and professionally.
He added that cases are now being prepared against individuals involved, with DCPO coordinating closely with concerned government agencies for proper documentation and the filing of appropriate charges.
Muarip stressed that the fight against smuggled cigarettes goes beyond law enforcement.
“Illicit trade deprives the government of much-needed revenues, poses risks to public health, and often supports other criminal activities. These operations show our firm commitment to protecting the community and upholding the rule of law,” he said.
The DCPO assured the public that operations against smuggled cigarettes and other illegal activities will continue through sustained enforcement, stronger inter-agency coordination, and community cooperation, as part of efforts to keep Davao City safe, orderly, and economically protected.
