Allies of former President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday filed an impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at the House of Representatives, marking the second attempt to remove the President from office since he assumed power in 2022.
At around 2 p.m., a group of vocal critics of Marcos and known Duterte supporters arrived at the House to formally submit the complaint, citing alleged betrayal of public trust.
Among the signatories were former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson, former Congressman Mike Defensor, former Representative Jacinto Paras, lawyer Ferdinand Topacio, and several other former government officials.
Separately, progressive groups also went to the House on the same day to file their own impeachment complaint against Marcos, raising concerns related to the national budget.
However, the Office of the House Secretary General, headed by Cheloy Garafil, refused to accept both impeachment complaints, citing the absence of the Secretary General, who was not physically present at the time of filing.
The first impeachment complaint against President Marcos Jr. was submitted on January 19, 2026, by lawyer Andre de Jesus. It was endorsed by Pusong Pinoy Party-list Representative Jernie Jett Nisay, the Deputy Minority Leader, and was received by the House Secretary General’s office.
That complaint was the earliest formal impeachment bid filed against Marcos since he took office in 2022, making it the first impeachment attempt of his administration.
