Davao Light and Power Co., Inc. has successfully energized on Monday its initial service areas in the Municipality of Kapalong, Davao del Norte marking a significant milestone in its expansion efforts.
Central to this development is the connection of the Davao del Norte Hospital- Kapalong Zone through a newly constructed 12-kilometer distribution line stretching from Barangay Pag-asa to the Municipal Hall.
According to Davao Light, the energization ensures stable and reliable electricity for the hospital, a critical requirement in delivering quality healthcare services.
“With consistent power supply, life-saving medical equipment can operate without interruption, temperature-sensitive medicines and supplies can be safely preserved, and healthcare professionals can provide continuous patient care,” it said in a statement.
Davao Light stressed that the development strengthens the hospital’s operational capacity and enhances its ability to serve residents in Kapalong and nearby communities.
“Beyond healthcare, the new distribution line lays the groundwork for broader economic and social progress,” the company said.
Davao Light said additional households, businesses, and public institutions are now positioned to benefit from improved access to electricity an essential driver of productivity, safety, and local investment.
This initiative forms part of Davao Light’s transition into its newly awarded franchise areas under Republic Act No. 12144.
Under Republic Act No. 12144, the utility has assumed responsibility for areas formerly covered by Northern Davao Electric Cooperative (NORDECO), delivering more reliable electricity to Panabo, Carmen, Dujali, Sto. Tomas, and now extending service to parts of Kapalong.
The expansion is supported by a provisional Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity issued by the Energy Regulatory Commission, authorizing the company to operate and serve these communities.
“As Davao Light continues to extend its network, the energization of Kapalong signals a strong step forward in advancing reliable power distribution and enabling inclusive growth across its expanded franchise area,” Davao Light said.
