DCPO warns hotels, inns vs. allowing minors ahead of Valentine’s Day

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has warned on Wednesday owners and operators of hotels, motels, and inns against allowing minors to enter their establishments, especially with Valentine’s Day approaching.

DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon said police are coordinating with hotels, resorts, and inns across Davao City to strictly enforce the law prohibiting minors from entering such establishments without their parents or legal guardians.

“Dili puwede ang mga bata musulod sa hotels, inns, or motels kung dili sila kuyog sa ilang ginikanan o legal guardian. Kinahanglan mutuman gyud ta sa balaod aron malikayan ang mga kaso,” Tuazon said during the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps media briefing.

She added that establishments found violating the law may face criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

Tuazon said police will also submit reports to the local government unit recommending the possible revocation of the business permit of erring establishments.

Tuazon said the warning is based on past incidents involving minors.

“In 2024, naa mi’y na-record nga kaso nga na-involve ang minor sa usa ka inn. Gi-file na ang kaso batok sa tag-iya, ug among gi-follow up ang kahimtangan sa maong kaso,” she said.

The DCPO urged establishment owners to be vigilant and responsible, stressing that strict compliance with the law will help protect minors and prevent legal problems, particularly during peak dates such as Valentine’s Day.
