The month-long celebration of the 89th Araw ng Dabaw officially kicks off with the release of its calendar of activities, with the Parada Dabawenyo set to coincide with the birthday of former President Rodrigo Duterte on March 28.
During the media launch, Willenito Tormis Jr., OIC of the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), said that, so far, no group has approached the city to include or seek accreditation for activities specifically honoring Duterte on his birthday.
He assured that the CTOO is ready to assist any group that wishes to organize such celebrations.
He added that while the city will not restrict birthday-related activities, organizers must coordinate with the security cluster and business bureau to secure the necessary permits.
Tormis emphasized that Araw ng Dabaw is a people-centered event for all Dabawenyos, not just select individuals.
The month-long festivities will officially begin on February 28 with Kanta ug Sayaw Dabawenyo, followed by the Misa Pasasalamat at San Pedro Square and Pasiugdang Pagsaulog at City Hall on March 1.
Key highlights throughout the month include the Araw ng Dabaw Trade Fair and Bazaar at Magsaysay Park, the “100 Years of City Hall: Projection Mapping”, and cultural performances such as Kundiman and Harana sa Araw ng Dabaw.
The Mutya ng Dabaw 2026 pageant will also take place during the celebrations.
The festivities will culminate on March 28 with the Parada Dabawenyo and Konsierto Dabawenyo, capping a month filled with cultural, artistic, and community-focused activities for all Dabawenyos.
