The city government of Davao City officially kicked off on Sunday evening the 89th Araw ng Dabaw celebration through the “Pasiugdang Pagsaulog,” placing the spotlight on the centennial celebration of Davao City Hall.
A major highlight of the opening program was the 3D mapping presentation projected onto the façade of City Hall, featuring former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The visual showcase depicted the city’s transformation through the years, illustrating its steady progress and honoring FPRRD’s enduring legacy and sacrifices in public service.
A sudden downpour prompted organizers to transfer the event to the Rizal Park, where the program continued.
Vice Mayor Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II delivered his message during the ceremonial launch of the 100 Years Centennial Stamps, underscoring the historical significance of the City Hall milestone and the collective efforts that shaped the city’s growth over the past century.
Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte extended her warm greetings to Dabawenyos as the city marked its founding anniversary.
In her message, she highlighted Davao’s enduring strength anchored on civic pride, unity, and shared responsibility.
The vice president emphasized that for nearly nine decades, Davao City has flourished because of the active participation of its people and a solid foundation of mutual trust.
She noted that the city’s culture of security and open dialogue between citizens and leaders has sustained public confidence and responsive governance.
Duterte commended Dabawenyos for being active partners in maintaining safe communities and holding leadership to high standards.
She stressed that the true strength of the city lies in the vigilance and concern of its people for one another.
She said because of this collective commitment Davao City continues to stand as a haven of order and a growing center of opportunity.
“Ang kalampusan sa Davao naggikan sa aktibong partisipasyon sa matag Dabawenyo. This trust remains strong because of our shared culture of security and the city’s tradition of open dialogue,” the vice president added.
She called on residents to work together in preserving the city’s peace and upholding the legacy of a government that listens.
“Ang tinuod nga kusog sa atong dakbayan anaa sa inyong pagpakabana. Because you are vigilant, our city remains a haven of order. Because you support the vision, our city continues to grow. Let us work together to protect this peace and the legacy of a government that listens,” she said.
