The expansion of the passenger terminal at Davao International Airport (DIA) is progressing steadily and is now on track for completion by December 2026, according to the Regional Project Monitoring Committee 11 (RPMC 11) of the Regional Development Council 11 (RDC 11) following a recent site inspection.
The monitoring team conducted physical site visits on February 12 to 13 to evaluate several major infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and mobility in Davao City.
In a statement, RDC 11 officials reported that the airport terminal expansion has reached 31.7 percent physical completion, marking steady progress toward increasing the capacity and efficiency of one of Mindanao’s busiest air gateways.
Once finished, the project will add 8,410 square meters of new space dedicated to international operations, significantly improving passenger handling capacity.
The expanded facility is expected to accommodate around 700 passengers at any given time, helping ease congestion during peak travel periods and supporting the growth of international travel to and from the region.
The project is also expected to provide a boost to the local economy and the expansion is being expected to generate approximately 4,000 jobs during and after construction while opening opportunities for around 40 new concessionaires inside the terminal.
The improvements is part of broader efforts to modernize the airport and strengthen its role as a key gateway for tourism, trade, and business in Mindanao.
According to RDC 11, once completed, the expanded terminal at DIA is expected to support increasing passenger traffic and further position Davao City as a growing aviation hub in southern Philippines.
Apart from the DIA, other projects inspected were the Ulas Viaduct, the Davao City Coastal Road Project, and the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project.
