DCPO explains police presence in businesses as proactive safety measure

CPO acting Director Col. Mannan Muarip

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) clarified that the recent visits of police personnel to several establishments across Davao City were part of proactive security measures aimed at strengthening crime prevention and maintaining public safety.

According to DCPO acting City Director Mannan Muarip, the activities involve routine inspections and information dissemination to help businesses adopt better security practices and prevent incidents such as theft and burglary.

“These initiatives are not an indication of a worsening peace and order situation but rather a manifestation of our commitment to remain proactive and vigilant in safeguarding the community,” Muarip said.

Muarip explained that the visits encourage business owners to practice basic security measures, including avoiding leaving large amounts of cash unattended and ensuring that their establishments are properly secured, especially during non-operating hours.

The DCPO also assured the public that police visibility operations remain in full implementation across the city.

“Police stations and operational units continue to intensify beat patrols, mobile patrols, and community engagements to sustain the peace and order in Davao City,” Muarip said.

The police office likewise urged business establishments to strengthen their physical security systems.

This includes installing quality anti-theft locks on roll-up doors, reinforced door hardware, and other reliable locking mechanisms to prevent unauthorized entry.

Business owners were also advised to ensure that doors, windows, and other access points are properly secured, noting that strong locks and reinforced entry points significantly reduce the chances of burglary and forced entry.

Meanwhile, the DCPO reminded the public to exercise responsibility when sharing information on social media, stressing that spreading unverified information may cause unnecessary alarm among residents.

“We strongly encourage the community to coordinate directly with the Davao City Police Office or the nearest police station should there be concerns or clarifications regarding security matters. Our office remains open and committed to transparency and partnership with the community,” Muarip added.

The DCPO also called on residents, business owners, and other stakeholders to support law enforcement efforts by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities.

“Peace and security are shared responsibilities. With the cooperation of the community and the continued commitment of our police officers, we will sustain the safe environment that Davao City is known for,” Muarip said.
