DCPO warns public against bomb jokes

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) issued on Friday a stern warning against making or spreading bomb threats, reminding the public that such acts even when intended as jokes were punishable under Presidential Decree No. 1727.

In a statement, the DCPO emphasized that the malicious dissemination of false information or willful threats involving bombs, explosives, or similar devices constituted a serious criminal offense.

Under the law, violators could face imprisonment of up to five years, a fine of up to P40,000, or both, depending on the court’s discretion.

Police authorities stressed that bomb threats whether made in person, online, or through any form of communication caused unnecessary panic, disrupted public order, and diverted critical law enforcement and emergency resources.

The DCPO reiterated that it treated all bomb threats with utmost seriousness and warned that individuals responsible for spreading false information would be held fully accountable.

“Public safety is our top priority. The Davao City Police Office will exhaust all legal means to identify and prosecute those who cause alarm and fear through false threats,” said acting City Director Col. Mannan Muarip.

Muarip also called on the public to act responsibly, stressing that bomb threats were never a laughing matter and could have lasting legal and personal consequences.

“Let us be responsible citizens and work together to keep Davao City safe and secure,” he added.

The DCPO urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid sharing unverified information that could trigger panic, underscoring the importance of maintaining peace, order, and discipline in the city.
