Customers of Davao Light and Power Company, Inc. (Davao Light) might see a slight adjustment in their electricity bills, but the utility firm assures that any increase will be “minimal.”
Fermin Edillon, Reputation Enhancement Manager of Davao Light, clarified on Wednesday that while the ongoing crisis in the Middle East has affected global markets, its direct impact on the local power distributor remains manageable.
He said based on the company’s simulation results it does not foresee a massive price spike linked to international volatility.
Edillon explained that the company regularly conducts simulations to project how global events and local demand affect pricing.
“Based sa among simulation, wala pa kaayo impact ang panghitabo sa Middle East sa presyo sa kuryente kung naa man basin very minimal. When I say simulation, i-simulate namo ang demand, ang presyo, so far nakita namo nga walay muhatag ug dakong impact sa presyo sa kuryente diri sa atoang lugar,” Edillon said during the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps media briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel.
Edillon emphasized that local consumption habits play a crucial role in determining the final cost of electricity.
He urged consumers to be mindful of their appliance usage to help stabilize rates.
“What is important sa kuryente tan-awon pud nato tung nagamit sa kuryente dapat paningkamutan na i-reduce nato ang paggamit sa atong mga appliances in a number of hours. Kay musaka man gud ang demand daghan factors i-consider sa presyo not only the price of fuels in the world market but also the demand nato. Pag musaka ang demand, musaka pud ang presyo,” he explained.
With the onset of the dry season, Edillon noted that power demand naturally surges as households use cooling appliances more frequently.
He stressed that energy conservation is the most effective tool for consumers to manage their monthly expenses during the summer months.
“Sa karon medyo init ang panahon tungod summer it is expected nga musaka pud ang demand kung unsa puwede ang mabuhat nato para makatabang is to reduce nato ang power consumptions kung puwede,” Edillon said.
