The Department of Labor and Employment 11 (DOLE 11) is set to stage a wider, region-wide Labor Day job fair on May 1, offering around 3,500 job vacancies and aiming to match or surpass last year’s hiring rate.
Suzette Jane A. Antiveros, Regional Employment Programs Focal of DOLE 11, said on Monday that this year’s celebration expands beyond Davao City to cover all provinces in the Davao Region.
Antiveros said at least six job fairs will be conducted simultaneously across the region, with the main event in Davao City set at SM City Davao.
“Ang atong job fair karon wider coverage siya because recently we are conducting our Labor Day Job Fair here in Davao City lang. So, the instruction right now is for us to conduct job fair across all provinces. So, aduna ta’y six ka job fairs na mahitabo karong May 1, ug in regional office, or diri sa Davao City, it will be held in SM City Davao. We are expecting at least 1,800 job vacancies,” Antiveros said during Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao.
She added that job fairs will also be held in other provinces, including Gaisano Grand Mall Digos, ABC Gym in Davao Occidental, NCCC Mall of Tagum, the Provincial Capitol Gym in Davao Oriental, and Assumption College in Davao de Oro.
“So overall, we have around 68 participating employers na nagapangita og trabahante with a total of around 3,500 ka job vacancies across Davao Region. Among ginaawhag ang tanan labi na katong nagapangita og trabaho or gustong mag-change sa ilang mga career especially sa atong mga fresh graduates na mo-join sa atong job fair karong May 1,” she added.
Antiveros said the Davao City leg will open as early as 7 a.m., with online pre-registration to be made available due to the expected high turnout of job seekers.
“For Davao City because we are expecting na dako-dako gyud ang atong mga job seekers no, we’ll be opening an online registration. Amo lang ginaawhag ang tanan nga gusto mo apil ani nga bantayan lang ang atong Facebook page, the Department of Labor and Employment Davao Region na page,” she said.
Antiveros said DOLE 11 is targeting at least a 20% hiring rate during the job fairs, close to last year’s 21% hired-on-the-spot outcome.
“Hopefully, last year man gud sa atong Labor Day, na-reach nato ang at least 21% na hired-on-the-spot. So, we’re hoping na for this year, our job seekers are ready for the employment and hopefully, at least ma-equal or ma-reach man lang nato ang atong target na at least 20% hire for this year,” she said.
Antiveros said the vacancies will focus on local employment, with strong participation from industries such as technology, business process outsourcing (BPO), retail, services, and construction.
“So, for the local vacancies, we have around 3,500 and we have a strong presence of tech, BPO, retail, services, and construction industries joining our job fair. For Davao City, ang top gyud na positions mostly are entry-level positions such as the cashier, customer assistant, ug production workers. Naa sad mga customer service representatives and operation management trainees,” she said.
Antiveros added that higher-level positions, including engineering roles, will also be available.
She said full details of job vacancies and participating employers will be posted on DOLE 11’s official Facebook page ahead of the event.
