Davao City First District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte expressed criticism of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., questioning the legitimacy of his much-touted political legacy.
Recently, Marcos has openly expressed fears that his political allies-turned-adversaries, specifically Vice President Sara Duterte, could reverse his policies if they take power in 2028.
“I find it ironic that Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is worried about anyone undoing his legacy. The only legacy I can think of is the legacy of corruption which clearly you have surpassed that of your infamous father,” the lawmaker said in a statement.
Duterte also took aim at the President’s perceived influence in Congress.
“Murag ma-proud na pud siguro ka kay ang imung anak gusto man pud musunod nimu gahaman naman kaayo sa Congreso bisan walay nahibal-an gawas sa pag tigum ug maleta… pati mga seasoned nga mga congressman hadlok pa niya,” he added.
Duterte stressed that Filipinos are more concerned about everyday challenges than political legacies.
“Filipinos are not concerned about preserving political legacies they are concerned about their daily struggles, the rising cost of living, and a government that should be working for them, not for itself,” he said.
He asserted that legacy is defined by deeds, not rhetoric.
“Legacy is not claimed or protected by words. It is defined by actions, and ultimately, judged by the people. Your legacy is your corruption, your weakness, your inability to address the simplest of problems of every Filipino and of course your being the one and only bangag president,” Duterte said.
