The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will open two segments of the 17.8-kilometer Davao City Coastal Bypass Road this June, a move expected to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce travel time for motorists.

According to the agency, the newly accessible sections will shorten travel time between Toril and parts of Poblacion to around 15 minutes from the current 45 minutes.

DPWH said the opening aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to fast-track the development of bypass and access roads nationwide.

“The initiative aims to help motorists save time on the road while reducing fuel consumption and transportation costs,” the agency said.

The Coastal Bypass Road is designed to serve as an alternative route to the congested Davao-Cotabato Road while helping decongest major thoroughfares in the city. The four-lane highway stretches from Bago Aplaya in the south to R. Castillo in the north and is divided into four segments.

Segment A, an approximately 8-kilometer stretch from Bago Aplaya to Times Beach, was inaugurated and opened to motorists in July 2023. Segment B spans about 4.4 kilometers from Times Beach to Roxas Avenue and provides direct access to the city center. Segment C covers around 2 kilometers from Roxas Avenue to Sta. Ana Wharf, while Segment D extends more than 3 kilometers from Sta. Ana Wharf to R. Castillo.

The final segment includes the 1.34-kilometer Davao River (Bucana) Bridge.

DPWH said the project will strengthen connectivity between key areas in Davao City and neighboring provinces while providing a more efficient transportation network for residents and travelers.
