Construction of Davao City’s new sanitary landfill in Barangay New Carmen, Tugbok District is continuing around the clock as the city government works to address waste management concerns following the landslide incident at the existing landfill site on May 20.
Councilor Temujin “Tek” Ocampo, chairperson of the City Council Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, said workers are expediting the project, which was scheduled to begin operations on June 16, to make the facility operational as soon as possible.
“Update ani katong sa bag-ong sanitary landfill. We already have a new sanitary landfill, and day and night, they are really working para lang mapaspasan ni siya, no, para ma-utilize sa city. So, they’re already working on it,” Ocampo said during Pulong Pulong sa Dabawenyo.
Ocampo said details regarding the project’s exact status and construction progress could be obtained from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and the City Engineer’s Office.
“As far as the tawag ana, kanang updates on asa ni sa dapit, I think you should ask CENRO or City Engineer’s Office,” he said.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau 11 (DENR-EMB 11) has confirmed that the Davao City government has complied with several critical safety and mitigation requirements at the Davao City Sanitary Landfill.
DENR-EMB 11 and the city government reiterated their commitment to addressing Davao City’s waste management challenges while ensuring environmental compliance and public safety.
