The death toll in the Davao Region has risen to 12 following the powerful earthquake that struck large parts of Mindanao on Monday, according to the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC 11) in its latest update on Wednesday.
The agency also recorded 41 injuries and 13 missing persons. However, authorities said the figures are still subject to validation by concerned agencies, including the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD 11) and local disaster offices.
RDRRMC 11 reported that the quake affected 57 barangays across the region, impacting 8,694 families, or 36,056 individuals.
Ten evacuation centers remain open and are currently sheltering 1,332 families, or 4,455 individuals, displaced by the disaster. A small number of families have also begun returning home.
RDRRMC 11 stated that damage to housing continues to rise, with 578 homes reported affected, including 40 that were partially damaged and 538 that were totally destroyed.
A total of 92 infrastructure facilities have also been reported damaged.
Six landslides were recorded in affected areas.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported a higher nationwide toll of at least 45 deaths, 17 missing persons, and 487 injuries. The quake has affected more than 33,000 households, or nearly 150,000 individuals, with over 41,000 people displaced across Mindanao.
Authorities also reported widespread infrastructure damage, including damage to hospitals, schools, and bridges. A total of 238 facilities were affected, while nearly 3,000 houses sustained damage.
