Senator Bong Go on Monday condemned the deadly shooting inside San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, calling the attack “karumal-dumal” and demanding an immediate, full investigation into how the suspects—reported to be minors—were able to obtain and bring a firearm onto campus.
In a statement, Go extended his condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the incident, saying the tragedy is especially painful “lalo na’t mga kabataan at mag-aaral ang naging biktima.”
Go, who chairs the Senate Committee on Youth, pressed concerned government agencies to determine accountability and close any gaps in school safety protocols. He stressed that schools must remain “zones of peace and learning,” not places where students face life‑threatening risks.
“What is even more alarming,” he noted, “are reports that the suspects themselves are minors.” He warned that if existing laws—including the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act—require amendments to prevent similar incidents, Congress must act swiftly. “Huwag na nating hintayin pang merong panibagong trahedya,” he said.
The senator also appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could heighten fear and confusion while authorities work to establish the facts.
Go said his office remains open to assist affected parents and students “sa abot ng aming makakaya,” particularly those dealing with trauma, injuries, and immediate needs following the shooting.
“My prayers are with the eternal rest of those who lost their lives, and for the healing of those who sustained injuries and trauma,” he added, expressing hope that investigators will uncover the truth and ensure such violence never happens again.
Authorities in Tacloban have yet to release full details of the incident as the investigation continues.
