Vice President Sara Duterte arrived at the Senate on Tuesday, where she met with her legal team before delivering a brief statement amid the ongoing impeachment proceedings against her.
“In this bloodbath and bludgeoning, I will be bloodied, but unbowed. Maraming salamat,” Duterte said.
Although she went to the Senate, Duterte did not appear before the Senate impeachment court during the second day of her impeachment trial.
Her legal spokesperson, Atty. Michael Poa, earlier confirmed that the vice president was on her way to the Senate but clarified that she would not participate in the day’s proceedings. Duterte also did not appear during the opening day of the trial on Monday.
The impeachment complaint against the vice president includes allegations of the misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery and corruption, and an alleged assassination plot against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Duterte has denied any wrongdoing, while the impeachment proceedings remain ongoing before the Senate.
Meanwhile, members of the Solid Duterte Supporters Group (SDSG) Davao Oriental Chapter held a motorcade on Monday in Mati City to express support for Duterte and oppose the impeachment proceedings.
The activity drew motorcycle riders, tricycle drivers, private vehicle owners, and other supporters who traversed major roads carrying banners reading “No to Impeachment” and “Inday Sara 2028 for President.”
According to the organizers, the motorcade was intended to show support for the vice president and call for national unity amid the political tensions surrounding the impeachment trial.
Photos from the event showed dozens of participants joining the convoy, with vehicles displaying campaign-style posters and green balloons symbolizing support for Duterte. Participants also posed for group photos while raising clenched fists, a gesture commonly associated with the Duterte political movement.
The motorcade coincided with the opening of Duterte’s impeachment trial before the Senate, which has drawn both support and opposition from various groups across the country.
