Classes at a public school in Barangay Panacan, Davao City were suspended on Friday morning following a reported bomb threat that prompted authorities to conduct a security inspection of the campus.
Personnel from the Sasa Police Station, Barangay Panacan Tanod Force, and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) K9 Team immediately responded to secure students, teachers, and school personnel of Corcuera Elementary School after receiving the report.
According to the police, the alleged bomb threat was reported at around 10:20 a.m. through Central 911.
Initial investigation showed that the information came from an unverified online message or post shown by Karen Perez to Alma Capin, a parent of a student at the school.
Capin later informed the school’s Assistant Principal II while waiting for her granddaughter to finish class, prompting school officials to suspend classes as a precautionary measure.
She told investigators that she could not determine whether the information originated from a Facebook post, Messenger message, or SMS. She also said she first saw the message at around 11 p.m. on July 23.
Authorities then conducted a thorough inspection and bomb-sweeping operation across the school premises.
Police said no explosive device was found during the operation and that the reported bomb threat was traced to an unverified online post whose source remains unknown.
Authorities are coordinating with school officials and continuing their investigation to identify the person or persons responsible for circulating the false bomb threat.
