Davao City extends P3M financial aid to quake-affected Mindanao LGUs

The City Government of Davao has approved P3 million in financial assistance for seven local government units in Mindanao affected by the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake.

Harvey Lanticse, officer-in-charge of the City Information Office (CIO), said the financial assistance will benefit General Santos City, the municipality of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental, and the Sarangani Province municipalities of Glan, Malapatan, and Alabel, which sustained significant damage from the earthquake.

Lanticse said extending assistance to disaster-stricken communities has long been part of Davao City’s humanitarian response, provided that the city’s own situation remains stable.

He added that the latest financial assistance forms part of Davao City’s continuing disaster response efforts, complementing the relief aid already delivered to help the affected local government units recover from the earthquake’s impact.

Prior to the cash assistance, the city government had already dispatched 5,000 welfare goods packs and supplies of clean drinking water to communities affected by the earthquake.

The City Government of Davao also deployed a 12-member team from the Davao City 911 Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) and Fire Auxiliary Service to the municipality of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental, from June 20 to 23, 2026.

The deployment was carried out in response to a request from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Davao Occidental for additional personnel and resources to assist local authorities in addressing hazards in barangays affected by earthquake-induced landslides following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the region earlier this month.
