A woman shot dead while another was injured in a shooting incident in Barangay Ubalde, Agdao District, Davao City, on Sunday evening, July 5, with police launching a manhunt for the suspect identified as the victim’s husband.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) identified the victims only by their aliases “Jemabel” and “Rovegen,” both fruit vendors and residents of Barangay Ubalde.
Initial investigation showed that the two women were tending their fruit stall along Orchids Street, beside Ubalde Elementary School, at around 7:15 p.m. when a man arrived on a motorcycle, stopped in front of them, and allegedly fired several shots before fleeing in an unknown direction.
Witnesses, including Jemabel’s 13-year-old son, identified the alleged gunman as Jemabel’s husband and the boy’s stepfather, leading investigators to classify the incident as a domestic-related shooting.
Members of the Barangay Disaster Quick Reaction Team immediately rushed the victims to the Southern Philippine Medical Center (SPMC) for treatment.
DCPO spokesperson Major Teresita Gaspan confirmed that Jemabel succumbed to her gunshot wounds at around 9 a.m. on Monday, while Rovegen remains under medical observation.
“Patay na po yung wife kanina mga 9 a.m. while ang isa is under observation,” Gaspan said.
Police have launched a hot pursuit operation to locate and arrest the suspect, who remains at large.
Authorities are preparing charges of parricide and frustrated murder against the suspect as investigators continue gathering evidence and witness statements. The case remains under active investigation.
