The Calinan Police Station said none of its intelligence personnel were identified by the complainant as the alleged assailant in a physical assault reported in Calinan, Davao City, amid public allegations linking police operatives to the incident.
The clarification came after a 23-year-old student reported that he was allegedly punched by an unidentified man and confronted by another man who allegedly claimed to be a police officer.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 2 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Beer Plaza in Bagsak, Calinan Poblacion.
Based on the police incident report, the complainant, Archie Canceran Taloria, said he and a friend were about to leave the establishment after a drinking session when an unidentified man allegedly approached and punched him.
Taloria also alleged that another unidentified man, whom he believed was the companion of the alleged attacker, told him not to move and claimed to be a police officer.
The complainant said the confrontation allegedly stemmed from a remark he made that was apparently misunderstood by the unidentified man.
Taloria reported the incident to police for documentation and appropriate action, after which the matter was referred to the Investigation Section.
Following the complaint, the Calinan Police Station said it conducted verification and identification procedures as part of its response. Available intelligence personnel were presented to the complainant and other victims for identification.
However, none of the personnel presented were identified as the alleged perpetrator, according to the police station.
The station also rejected suggestions that police ignored the complaint, saying appropriate procedures were undertaken to verify the allegations.
“A social media post or a single perspective may not always reflect the whole situation,” the station said in a statement.
The station appealed to the public to consider the complete facts before making accusations.
Calinan police also said its officers consistently exercise maximum tolerance when responding to conflict situations, emphasizing restraint, professionalism, and respect for all parties.
At the same time, the station acknowledged that allegations concerning the conduct of responding officers remain subject to investigation.
“Any allegations regarding the actions of the responding officers remain subject to proper investigation and due process,” the police said.
The station urged the public to allow investigators to establish the circumstances of the incident through evidence and proper procedures.
“Let us avoid premature conclusions and instead allow the facts and evidence to establish the truth,” it added.
