The Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC) announced that Davao City reaffirmed its long standing relationship with Japan as it welcomed a Japanese parliamentary delegation on Wednesday.
The DCIPC said the visit highlights opportunities to deepen investment, cultural exchange, and bilateral cooperation.
The City Government of Davao, through the DCIPC, facilitated a high-level courtesy call with Japanese lawmaker Shiomura Ayaka, who returned to Davao nearly two years after her initial visit in August 2024.
Shiomura was accompanied by Ono Hirotaka and Vice Consul Airi Nakata.
The DCIPC said the Japanese delegation was welcomed by Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte; City Councilors Ragde Ibuyan, Rachel Zozobrado, and Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz; City Information Office Officer-in-Charge Harvey James Lanticse; and DCIPC Acting Officer-in-Charge Christian D. Cambaya.
According to the DCIPC, Shiomura’s visit coincided with the annual Iresai Memorial Service, which honors the early Japanese immigrants and settlers who helped establish Davao’s pre-war abaca industry, underscoring the city’s deep historical ties with Japan.
The DCIPC emphasized that the visit reflects the city’s commitment to nurturing international partnerships that create opportunities beyond diplomacy.
“The courtesy call highlights Davao City’s continuing efforts to strengthen its partnership with Japan by fostering meaningful engagements that promote investment, cultural exchange, and long-term economic cooperation. Through these relationships, we aim to position Davao as a preferred destination for sustainable investments and mutually beneficial collaborations,” the DCIPC said.
