Davao Light power rate rises to P13.24 per kWh amid tight Mindanao supply

Davao Light and Power Company (Davao Light) will implement a higher residential electricity rate of P13.24 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for the September 11 to October 10, 2026 billing period, up by P0.34/kWh from last month’s P12.90/kWh.

The power utility said the increase was mainly driven by higher prices at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) amid tight power supply conditions in the Mindanao grid, particularly during periods of high electricity demand.

The higher WESM prices raised the cost of electricity supplied to customers, contributing to the increase in the overall residential rate.

To cushion consumers from elevated WESM prices, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) directed the regional implementation of the Secondary Price Cap (SPC) in the Visayas and Mindanao grids, retroactive to August 2026.

The ERC also ordered the recalculation of market settlements to reflect the price cap-adjusted charges in customer bills.

Separately, Davao Light secured ERC approval to defer a portion of its generation charges. Under the arrangement, the deferred amount will be collected from customers in installments instead of being passed on in full in a single billing period.

The measure is intended to help ease the impact of higher electricity costs on consumers.

Davao Light said electricity rates may continue to fluctuate from one billing period to another depending on changes in generation costs and prevailing market conditions.

Customers are also encouraged to practice energy efficiency and manage their electricity consumption to help control their monthly power bills.
