Up for franchising: Toryano’s Native Chicken Haus

What started as a small native chicken haus in August 2008 has gained national recognition and is now open for ownership among those who want a piece of the action.
Toryanos Chicken Haus owner, Victoriano M. Yee, Jr. believes in the marketability of his product, so much so that exactly a year later he opened the first branch of Toryano’s Chicken House on Torres Street, and barely a year after that on March 8, 2010, his Tagum branch opened its doors to the public.
“The intention was to showcase Davao City as the best source of native chickens,”  Toryano’s Chicken Haus general manager Sarah R. Santos said. “There is an abundant supply of native chickens in the city and Mr. Yee capitalized on this to build the first native chicken haus in Davao City.”
Toryano’s was recently cited as the National Shoppers’ Choice Annual Awardee for 2009, the  “No. 1 Native Chicken House in Davao City”.
“The annual awards honors and recognizes companies that have excelled in their respective fields of business based on product quality, company reputation, brand recognition and consumer services,” Awards committee chair Prof. Manuel A. Kimpo said in a letter to Yee.
Kimpo said the Awards aims to motivate companies and businesses to excel and win the vote of shoppers as their brand of choice. With the award, which will be received by Yee’s industrial partner, Toto Abad, and general manager Sarah Santos at the Dusit Hotel in Makati City on April 20 this year, Toryano’s joins the ranks of Jollibee Food Corporation (top hamburger chain), Blugre Coffee Shop (top coffee shop) and Mandarin Tea Garden (top rice toppings house) among others.
This year 2010, Yee is expanding his native chicken haus business operation through franchise. The Tagum branch is actually the first franchise which was turned over last February 25 to franchise partner, Alex Bancud.
“The secret to our native chicken is actually its distinctive taste which is very different from that of the others. The success of Toryano’s operation is in part due to the assistance of Mr. Yee’s industrial partner, Mr. Abad,” Santos said.
While the first Toryano’s Chicken Haus boasts of an open air atmosphere with its fresh air and garden set-up, especially at night. The Torres branch is fully air conditioned and offers function rooms for all occasions and meetings for its clients.
“We are actually eyeing the possibility of establishing more branches of Toryano’s Chicken Haus, not only in Mindanao but in the rest of the country through the franchising scheme,” Santos said. The transition management team of Toryano’s makes sure the business is constantly developing, expanding and innovating to become more competitive in the food industry.
Santos said their competitive advantage is really their traditional style of cooking where the service is home-like. Aside from the native barbecue chicken; they also serve fried and grilled hito, kinilaw, imbao, tinolang native chicken and native pansit. They also serve budget meals at only P63 each order that includes chicken BBQ with unlimited rice and soup.
“The transition management team is focused on providing more training for the staff to ensure they are able to provide quality and more efficient service,” she said.
Davao City is the place to be if you are looking for the best chicken barbecue, but if you are craving for native chicken, then there is no other place to visit but the Toryano’s Native Chicken Haus.  Lovely A. Carillo
