P20-Billion eyed as DATE windfall

Davao business players who participated in the recent Davao Trade Exhibit 2010 could make as much as P20 billion, according to the Bureau of Investment (BOI).
This is the potential business value arising from the meetings between buyers and suppliers, said Wit Holganza of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCII) during the Club 888 Forum at The Marco Polo Davao, Wednesday.
Participants in the exhibit also reported P22.9 billion total potential sales with more than 1,000 visitors attending the three-day event held at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
Delegates also benefited from the 24 topics discussed during the AGRICON, which included  topics on pest management, risk mitigation on people’s health, and developing new varieties for the global market.
Holganza also stressed the representation of 10 countries, and more than 500 combined delegates during the first Philippine Global Banana Summit and the Agri-Conference breakouts.
President Benigno Aquino sent a message to the delegates and participants commending the united effort of the stakeholders in forwarding trade and industry in the region.
The event was attended by agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala, Mindanao Development Authority chair Secretary Lu Antonino and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
