RECORDS of the Business Bureau under the city mayor’s office say a total of 31,780 business applications in the first quarter of this year, with 29,054 already approved and 3,208 still being processed.
Business Bureau assistant chief Villa V. Dureza on Tuesday said the old and new business applications and the on-process and approved applications if combined could surpass the 30,000 approved applications in 2010.
Dureza said the bureau’s innovations like putting up one-stop shops as off-sites for business permit applications has sped up processing of permits and reduced the number of people inside the Sangguniang Panlungsod building where the main office of the bureau is located.
“We conducted for the first time a one-stop shop in business renewal at SM Davao on January 2-20, 2011. Another one-stop shop was held at Abreeza Mall for new business permit applications,” Dureza said.
“Out of more than 300 tenants in Abreeza, we were able to serve more than a hundred applications during that week-long one-stop shop,” Dureza said.
Lawyer Jhopee Avanceña-Agustin, business bureau chief, earlier stressed that business permits should be secured before operations start.
The categories according to business lines with the corresponding number of approved permits are: banks and financial institutions, 1,134; boarding house and dormitories, 579; business fixed tax, 4,252; contractors and services, 9,200; exporters, 3,229; food handlers, 227; hotels and motels, 47; importers, manufacturers and producers, 2,535; lodging houses and inns, 143; printing and publication 152; real estate dealers, 2,083; sand & gravel concessionaire, 73; wholesaler, retailer, distributor & dealer, 29, 054.
