Tagumenyos got a peek of the future of Metro Davao, and pitched in ideas for its further improvement.
Last February 6, 2018, the City Government of Tagum welcomed representatives from various local government units, government agencies, and local entrepreneurs, to the Mindanao Development Authority’s 2nd Consultation of the Metro Davao Master Plan, which was held in the New City Hall Atrium.
Part of the activities lined up during the event was the Overview of the Metro Davao Urban Master Plan, a summarized report from the previous consultation last November 20, 2017.
The grouped delegates were asked to participate in a workshop on Community Resource Planning based on their city of residence. The event was headed and facilitated by Arch. Felino “Jun” Palafox, Jr., the president and founder of Palafox Associates and Palafox Architecture.
Palafox, the leading architect for this master plan, openly stated that Metro Davao has high development potential, actually insinuating that by 2050, Metro Davao could be a potential candidate for the largest airport in the world and Davao Gulf could become one of the largest, if not the largest harbor in the world.
With Tagum City’s strategic placement in the intersection of two major road networks connecting the city to other major destinations, this master plan proves to be an effective and efficient way to increase foot traffic in the city. As the LGU aims to be an independent highly urbanized city, this development could give it the edge to maintain its luster in the globally competitive arena.
As the first class component city in the province of Davao del Norte in Mindanao, the locale is committed to its pursuit towards sustainable and inclusive growth and development through highly competitive industries. Mindanao finally has the potential to make this shift from being a backdoor entrance of the Philippines to frontlining investments.
With local government leaders with strong political will and visionary leadership, Palafox envisions a metropolitan area invested in agriculture, tourism, culture, and diversity.
