NABUNTURAN, ComVal – Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy has expressed optimism that he can introduced more high-profile initiatives in the next four years while positioning the province as an a major player in the agenda to make Davao region as agricultural investment area.
In an interview, Uy, when asked about the major achievements he has so far accomplished, underscored the role of the governor in provincial growth as “multi-dimensional and has the capacity to absorb problems, even those in barangays.”
Especially in peace and order issue, the inroads gained by Compostela Valley has substantially been huge and creditable.
“In the past two years,” he said, there has been “a concerted effort with the security sector when it comes to NPA surrenderees,” citing that the number of rebels who returned to the fold of law has been significant.
He said: “There are programs for them that are being introduced in partnership with the local government units. As a result, insurgency, in general, has been reduced, which is a great factor in the campaign of the government to bring people to the fold of law. A bigger budget was allotted for the returnees than the previous years.”
To interconnect towns, Uy said roads initiated but not completed during the administration of his father, now Board member Arthur T. Uy, have been finished, among them the Laak to Monkayo link and the Nabunturan-Compostela bypass road.
He mentioned also of the Monkayo to Compostela road, which is ongoing and other roads interconnecting municipalities, which are largely for the benefit of farmers and tourists.
On the contentious Diwalwal issue, he said the investors coming into the province are welcome provided they follow the requirements of law.
“In Monkayo,” he explained, “the manifesto of the people there, including local leaders, thas remained ae hurdle in the entry of investors. I fully respect the decision of the local government and the stakeholders because they have the right to assess what is good for the place. On my part, my goal is to oversee only and lay the way or assist the investors.”
Uy noted that in agriculture, the province has focused its initiatives on vegetable farming and high-value crops, like cacao and coffee, in line with making Davao region as a cacao hub.
Aside from providing seedlings to farmers, coops are given the chance to avail of micro-credit facilities extended by the province.
The governor predicts that by 2022 Nabunturan, a growing economic hub and provincial center with a couple of malls to show, may become a component city.
He said more commercial establishments and superstores have signified their interest of infusing more investments in the province, including the future mall in the town of Mawab.
In the field of health and hospital, he has expanded the extension of health services as supplement to the transformation of hospitals into economic enterprises, which his father strongly pushed during his three-term administration.
The young governor also stressed that during the first two years of his governance, “I have strengthened, with DOH help, the no-balance billing scheme and introduced some health facilities as well.
In four state-funded hospitals within the province, overall it has achieved 94%no-balance billing and subsidy for charity has been doubled, just like the Malasakit centers.
For 2019 alone, Uy disclosed that P210 million has been earmarked as health subsidy.
