The National Food Authority (NFA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched the Suggested Retail Price (SRP) for rice at the Cogon Market in Cagayan de Oro City yesterday, November 8.
With the SRP, rice traders and retailers are expected to comply with the prescribed labelling of rice boxes and price tags. Rice sold in the markets shall only be classified as regular milled rice (RMR), well-milled rice (WMR) premium and special. The labels shall also identify whether the rice is imported or local.
The SRP for rice are as follows:
- Imported well-milled – P39
- Imported premium (PG1) – P43
- Imported premium (PG2) – P40
- Local regular-milled – P39
- Local well-milled – P44
- Local premium grade – P47
- Special rice – no SRP
Gracing the event were officials of the NFA, DTI and the Confederation of Grains Retailers Association of the Philippines (GRECON). DTI Misamis Oriental OIC Almer Massillones; Atty. Edgardo Uy, chair of the local price coordinating council; Councilor George Goking, chair of Commerce and Trade; Ms. Helen Fernandez, GRECON regional president; NFA Regional Director for region 10 Dianne Silva; and DA-RFO 10 OIC Regional Executive Director Carlene C. Collado visited various rice outlets in the Cogon Market after the launch. Monitoring of the SRP implementation and compliance to the set guidelines will be done regularly by the NFA and other regulatory agencies.
