Zambo residents told to receive tax amnesty

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Real property owners are urged to avail of the tax amnesty, a rare opportunity granted by the local government to help delinquent owners settle their accounts at lower cost.

City Treasurer Romelita Candido on Friday made the call as the city government is granting real property tax (RPT) relief on penalties, surcharges and interests pursuant to Ordinance 484, which grants amnesty on unpaid RPT covering all years prior to December 31, 2017.

However, Candido said that December 14, is the last day for the 100 percent RPT relief on penalties, surcharges and interests.

Candido said they have collected PHP18.756 million arrearages since the amnesty started last September 2 to December 10.

She said the amount represents just 5.5 percent of the targeted goal collection of PHP343 million.

“The collection is ongoing, and we are focused on the big accounts. We have positive developments in our talks with them (RPT owners with big accounts),” she said.

She said that payments made starting Monday, December 17 up to June 30, 2019 will avail of the 50 percent tax relief pursuant to Ordinance 484.

Ordinance 484 was enacted by the City Council on July 31, 2018 and was signed by Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco Salazar on August 13, 2018. (With reports from R.G. Antonet A. Go/PNA)
