Region 11 labor force hits 64.5% in 2024

Davao Region’s labor force in 2024 comprised 64.5 percent of its 15 years and over population, estimated at 3.8 million, the Philippine Statistics Authority-Davao (PSA-11) reported on Tuesday.

Last year, the agency said around 2.47 million people were in the labor force, corresponding to a labor force participation rate (LFPR) of 64.5 percent. The rate is 1.9 and 0.3 percentage points higher compared to the LFPR of 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Davao Occidental reported the highest LFPR at 69.7 percent, followed by Davao del Sur at 69.3 percent.

In contrast, Davao de Oro had the lowest rate at 61.7 percent.

Davao del Norte, Davao City, and Davao Oriental recorded 64.1 percent, 63.8 percent and 61.9 percent, respectively.

Overall, the employment rate in the Davao Region was estimated at 96.8 percent in 2024, translating to about 2.39 million persons employed, PSA-11 said in its report.

Davao del Sur posted the highest employment rate at 99.0 percent. Meanwhile, Davao del Norte and Davao City recorded the lowest rates at 96.1 percent and 95.7 percent, respectively.

Data also showed 79,000 were unemployed last year, or a regional unemployment rate of 3.2 percent.

Davao City registered the highest unemployment rate at 4.3 percent or 37,000 individuals, followed by Davao del Norte at 3.9 percent.

The provinces of Davao Occidental (2.8 percent), Davao de Oro (2.5 percent), Davao Oriental (2.5 percent), and Davao del Sur (1.0 percent) all recorded unemployment rates lower than the regional figure. (PNA)
